How did everyone do during Plastic Free July?!

If you haven’t seen the posters all around the Market + have no idea what we are talking about — please click here to learn more about this important movement. At Otto’s we are serious about cutting down on our plastic waste, here’s how:

  • All Compostable To-Go products - coffee cups, lids, utensils, straws, stirrers, to-go containers, tray liners

  • Otto’s Coffee Club - decreases single use cups + funds support local environmental efforts

  • Take-a-Bag, Leave-a-Bag - look for the bin with free tote bags donated by customers

  • No Plastic Grocery Bags - only paper bags + discount given if you bring your own bag

  • Free Water Refill Station to fill reusable water bottles

  • No single use plastic water bottles for sale **

  • Home Section offering utensil kits, tote bags, glass water bottles, reusable ziplock bags, beeswax food wraps, compost bins

  • Compost Drop-off for locals

** There has been a lot of feedback about our phasing out of single use plastic water bottles. I highly recommend that everyone watch the documentary TAPPED (or at least the trailer).

Just 10 minutes from the center of Red Hook, practicing organic + regenerative farming methods! Offering beautiful vegetables, CSA shares, and community events.

HIGHLAND FARM

Jerky, Sausage, Medallions, Ground Meat, Pet Treats... Our Germantown Neighbors have it all when it comes to Venison! Free Range, No Antibiotics, No Growth Hormones, and Delicious.

  • Student Loan Debt is preventing a generation from finding success in agriculture. Support the amazing work of the National Young Farmers Coalition (based in Hudson) by sending a message to Congress here.

  • Germantown Waterfront Committee just submitted a grant proposal for a Local Waterfront Revitalization Plan (LWRP). If awarded + approved, an LWRP will help create a plan for Germantown’s waterfront that will be recognized on the state + federal level -- making it a very powerful tool for our community. Exciting work! We should celebrate by taking a public sail with Clearwater.

  • A Repair Cafe is where a group of volunteers offer their skills for free to help mend, repair, refurbish items that might otherwise be tossed into the landfill. We are fortunate to have 11 Repair Cafes across the Hudson Valley!

  • As we continue to spend as much time outdoors as possible this summer, make sure you are doing everything you can to keep our AIR CLEAN.

GERMANTOWN FARMERS MARKET, SATURDAYS 10-2pm

Otto’s will be at the Germantown Farmers Market this Saturday in Palatine Park with coffee and baked goods — come see us and all the other amazing vendors!

LAUNDROMAT SHOP OPENING PARTY

This Sunday, August 4th from 3-6pm — there will be an Opening Party next door at the Germantown Laundromat! Swing by to learn how this community space is exploring what it means to live a cleaner life through the sustainable shop, laundry and repair services.

OUTDOOR MOVIE IN PALATINE PARK

The next outdoor movie will be UP on Friday, August 16th at 8pm! Sponsored this month by Alder & Co and yours truly. There will be free popcorn, water, yard games and lots of community fun.
