Warm Figs with Feta and Basil PDF Print E-mail

From Around The Family Table

A nice appetizer to serve with an Italian dinner or a mid-eastern menu.

2 tablespoons red-wine vinegar*
2 tablespoons honey
16 Black Mission figs
2 oz. feta cheese, cut into 16 equal pieces
16 large fresh basil leaves

Light a grill or heat a grill pan.

In a small saucepan, bring the vinegar and honey to a simmer. Set aside.

Grill the figs over moderate heat, turning until warmed through, about 4 minutes. Transfer the figs to a large plate. With a small sharp knife, split open the figs; fold a basil leaf around each piece of the feta and tuck it into a fig.

Drizzle the vinegar-honey mixture over the figs, and serve.

Serves 8, or 4 people who love figs.

*Marianna found some meyer lemon fig balsamic vinegar at Whole Foods Market. Quel difference!
