My grocery career started at age 6. I lived in Longview, Washington, and we had a wonderful old house with a really cool unfinished attic. I set up shop there, and my Mom would save all her empty grocery packaging for me. She even opened the cans from the bottom, so they looked full on my tidy display shelves.
The bulk of my grocery experience was at Whole Foods Market. I worked for Whole Foods for 17 years, starting in the cheese department in a Houston, Texas store, and ending as Vice President of the Northeast Region. I ran stores in San Francisco, New York City and London.
After having a sensational career at Whole Foods Market, I had a good ol’ mid-life crisis. It just was my time to downshift a bit. I took a year off of work to explore new directions. Having been a part-time Hudson Valley resident for the last 6 years, I was anxious to find a full-time gig here.
I happened upon Central Market while driving around looking at farm properties. The minute I walked in, I knew it was what I wanted to do. The store is rich in history and character, and being a Main Street grocer in a sweet little Hudson River town is a slice of Americana that I am thrilled to be a part of!
